Hamlet’s Monologue

The monologue is the most important scene of Hamlet.
In this scene, Hamlet expresses his feelings, his pains, his thoughts and he gives voice to difficult doubts he has in front of life and death.
Hamlet wants to take a decision “to be or not to be”, to live or to die.

At first, his consideration is to live. If he lives, he has to face the problem and fight against troubles or he has to accept “slings and arrows of an outrageous fortune”. So, if he decides to live, he has to make his mind up to live or to live only in a biological level.
Afterwards he takes in consideration the possibility to die by committing suicide and he compares it to an eternal sleep. He thoughts that death put an end to his problems and it could be better than life.
Indeed, when people sleep, they don’t feel any sorrow or pain. On a second thought, Hamlet realizes that he could make a nice dream, but it could be also an eternal nightmare where he could be stuck.
The answer that Hamlet gives for this question is to live. Without a doubt, Hamlet is scared about the unknown and so, he prefers to fight against something he knows.

Hamlet is still famous and loved because he represents all human beings. People are afraid about the unidentified as Hamlet. He reflects all human’s pains, sorrows and thoughts. His troubled mind fascinates everyone and his questions, his problems, his themes are still discussed.
