A Word is Dead
By the title the reader can understand that the text speaks about the language. The title is an affermation and it introduces that the theme is about words. It is a personification because a word is compare to a human. Reading the title the reader sees that the word compared to an adjective; a reader can ask why a word is dead.
The layout tells the reader it is a poem and considering the layout an intelligent reader can see that the text is a poem.
The poem is written in six lines arranged in tercets. It follows that the reader may be interested in discovering the function of single tercets.
In the first tercets the third person narrated expresses a totally different opinion.
It goes without saying that the structure of the poem is conceive of to give two different opinions about the life of the word.
Indeed the function of the first tercet is in total opposition.
The content is an argomentation about the life cicle of the word.
In the first line there is a personification, a word is compared to a human because the word is compared to the adjective "dead".
In the second and in the third lines there is a run-on-line (said some say). In the second line of the second tercet there is another personification, a word is compared to the verb "to live".
In the poem the reader can find some alliteration for example the words "said,some,say,say".
