SHE DWELT AMONG THE UNTRODDEN WAYS
The title hints an atmosphere of loneliness, and introduces a female figure who lives in a hidden place; it makes the reader suppose that the poem is about her character. Close up, there are two words of archaic form, which give the reader an idea of the era in which the poem was written .
In considering the layout the text is composed into tree stanzas, therefore, the intelligent reader can understand that is a ballad (very popular form of poem, address to the common people with a simple linguage).
-FIRST STANZA: INTRODUCTARY ROULE
In the first stanza the poet introduces the girl, who lives near the Springs of Dove, and the setting from an external point of view.
-SECOND STANZA: DEVELOPS LUCY'S PERSONALITY
In the second quatrains the character is underlined by two metaphors : in the first the poet appeals to the image of an half hidden flower, a violet. She was hardly visible because she lived among stones by a mosse. In the same stanza the poet gives a joudgement and tells the reader that she was nice looking
and that she remined a star. The poet gives additional informations saying that her beauty was similar to a beauty of the star when only one was shining. This means that she was not only beautiful, but precious.
The function of the second stanza is to give the reader a positive idea throught the expressions of personality, of a strong points that made of her a rare creature.
-THIRD STANZA: IS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHI PBETWEEN THE MADE AND THE SPEAKING VOICE
All this goes to prove that a very few people knew her, it follows that only a few people could love her. Just at the end of the poem the name of the made is revealed, Lucy.
The speaking voice tells the reader that she has died and the poet wonders about the difference her death makes for him. At this point of the text the poet gives himself away and makes the reader understand that he had a very positive opinion about Lucy and he misses her after death.
CONNOTATIVE ANALYSIS:
The phonologic language is organized into alterned rhyme and alternance of vocal sounds.
There is a frequent use of assonances and eco effect.
Only in the last stanza the poet unvales the made's name, to drow the reader's attenction. This made a climax, which increases until the reader finds out that Lucy has died.
As one can understand, the message for the reader is to decide immediately to catch opportunities.
