The Sonnet
The sonnet is a lyrical form of poetry, the speaking voice does not coincide with the poet. In all the sonnets there is something that cannot change: is a lyrical form of poet that is arranged into 14 lines. The structure of the 14 lines may be different.
First model (Petrarch): it was made up by a octave and a sestect. The sonnet underwent gradually trasformatin due to the different languages (it was impossible to keep the Petrarch structure). Sir Thomas Wyatt translated mainly the Petrarch's sonnets in English language, the differences broke the stucture. The person who transformed the structure was HAnry Howard Earl os Surrey. The new structure was made up bay three quatrains and a couplet (Shakespeare's sonnet structure).
Sonnets usually were addressed to woman, them were very popular at court. In changing the structure also the effect changes and it is steactly connected to the structure we use.
The sonnet is a form of poetry cultivated in all the times, also at this time. Songs and sonnets are both form of poetry and they are streactly connected to the sound level of poetry that it is musicallity. The language is syntatical and word choice is really important as well as rhyme and rhtm are important: rhyme may be alternative or it may consist in a rhyming couplet. Sound devices like rhymt, rhytm, alliteratins are very frequent in poetry because the sound level adds meaning to the text. in some cases sonnets may belong to a collection, in that case them are rocognised by numbers.
whyle the model waas set in Italy in teh Middle Ages, in England was cultivated in the Renaissance. Most sonnets in the Middle Ages adopted the convention of courtly love poem.
