This week I'm visiting london. I'm writing information of the city and places I want to visit...

London is situated in south-eastern England, at the head of the River Thames estuary, west of the river’s mouth on the North Sea.

It has a population of just above 7 million; there are a mild climate: winter can be very wet and cold; in summer hot days with high humidity.

Important for economy are the manufacturing, engineering and service industries. London is one of Europe’s largest seaports.

Travelling around London is easy: the underground or the Tube is the most extensive metro system in the world.

The West End is the heart of London. It was built as a series of palaces expensive town houses, fashionable shops and places of entertainment.

Westminster has been the seat of government in England for more than nine hundred years. The palace of Westminster is the home of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It also known as the Houses of Parliament. The high Clock Tower is most famous: it houses the bell known as Big Ben.

Westminster Abbey is the traditional place of coronation and burial site for English monarchs. Geoffrey Chaucer, the first great English poet, was buried here. Other poets were buried around Chaucer in what became known as Poets’ Corner.

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarch. The Changing of the Guard, is performed daily at the Palace.

The British Museum is one of the world’s greatest and most famous museums. Among the highlights of the collections are: collection of Egyptian mummies and coffins; the Elgin Marbles, carvings from the Parthenon in Athens; the Rosetta Stone, a stone written in Egyptian hieroglyphics and in Greek.

There are a number of famous streets and squares in the West End. Oxford, Regent and Bond Street is important shopping street, with famous department stores. Shaftesbury Avenue is the heart of London’s theatre district.

Trafalgar Square is a large square that commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. In the centre of the square in Nelson’s column. On the north side of Trafalgar Square is the National Gallery. Works by famous artists such as Leonardo, Van Gogh, Botticelli and many others.

Piccadilly Circus is a place for entertainment and shopping. At the south-western side of the Circus stands a fountain with a winged nude statue on top, popularly known as Eros, although its official name is “The angel of Christian Charity”.

I hope I will visit all these places...
