She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways
In this poem the poet uses archaic language, so the intelligent reader can understand which epoch the speaking voice is talking about . Poem is about a woman who live in hidden ways.
In considering layout the reader understand that the poem is a ballad because it is divided into 3 quatrain.
The first stanza introduces the setting and the girl from an external point of view. The maid was not appreciated and only few people could love her because she lived in a distant place. In the second stanza the speaking voice compars girl to a violet who lived among stones hidden by the musk. He tells the reader that she was nice-looking and she remind a star that shining in the sky: this means that she was precious. The function is to give a very positive idea of the girl. In the third stanza the speaking voice tells that only few people had the opportunity to meet her. Now Lucy (the name of the girl) is buried in her brave and this make a great difference for the poet. The intelligent reader understand that the speaking voice had a very positive idea of the maid and she was so important to him.
Poem is organized in alternative rhyme: there are hidden connection from the first line to the fourth line and this lends musicality to the poem.
