A WORD IS DEAD.
The author uses a simple language. By the title the reader may understands that the poet have used a personification of the term "word". Account of this text will probably be about the life of the word. The reader may wonder why the word is died.
The layout shows that the text is a poem. It is organized in six lines, arranged into two tercets. It follows that the reader might be interested in finding out the function of single tercet.
In the first tercet the speaking voice says that when somebody speaks and uses words, as soon as a word in said is dead.
In the second tercet the narrative voice changes into a first personal writer. It express a totally different opinion.
It goes without saying that the structure of the poem conceives of give different opinion about the life of the word. Indeed the function of the first tercet is to convey a point of view which is exactly opposite of the second tercet.
The poet plays with the sounds "dead" and "said". He uses a personification to compare the life of the word to the human life, wondering when a word dies or lives. He uses two speakers and two points of view.
The content of the text is an argumentation about the life of the word. What is the life? And what is the death? The author don't give the reader an answer, he wants him to reflect about this theme.
