The first information about her phisical aspect are very ambiguous: the narrator says approximatly how old she is and add that the nun has a strangely beautiful. The narrator immediatly tells us about her clothes, more in particular about the nun's veil and the way it encloses her face and her sholders. the mistery and the attention of the readere are kept with the connotation of her worried forehaed, her eyebrowns and her eyes that are black like her veil. those eyes can 'investigate' people but at the same time look at the ground when the nun need a shelter. the description of the eyes goes on and the narrator gives the reader all the possible meaning that thy can have: that's contribute to give more mistery to the character that isn't presentated with clear lines; ideed even the phisical aspects are full of mistery. Lips are connotated in contrapposition with the white skin and cheeks of the nun. In the whole characterization there is a contrast between black and white, this remainds to the contrapposition between the social behavour that a nun may have and Signora's behavour. Even in the posture the reader can appreciate that she's not a common nun, she doesn't behave like the other nuns, for exemple she doesn't cut her hair as common nuns do.
