A WORD is dead ”

A word is dead

When it is said

Some say

I say it just

Begins to live

That day.

Emily Dickinson

A word is dead ” was written by Emily Dickinson in 1924. The title of this poem makes an anticipation about the content of the poem: When i look at the title i think that "the word" is a lot of important and i wonder why the poetess usa a word like "dead" for a word.

The poem consist of two tercet, so they are organized in three brief lines. This means that the poetess want  to emphasize a few words so this poem was written in short, concise lines to emphasize the importanze of each word used.
