Good afternoon ,

I have provided for conclude the analysis of " She Dwelt among the untrodden ways".

 

1) Considering the title : She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways

In this title there are two archaic form of  words : dwelt which means live and untrodden  an adjectives particle of the verbs "to troad" , that the reader don't know . The intelligent reader have to ask to himself why the poet has written this two words.

The title hints an atmosphere of loneliness which envelopes a female character , it makes the reader suppose the poem is about this character. 

  

 The layout of this text can understand to the intelligent reader that is a poem composed by three quatrain.  

 

2) The denotative analysis

- In the first quatrain , the speaking voice starts with an introduction to the character : she lives alone , beside the springs of Dove , far from followed paths .She can have very few relationship with others.

The function of the first stanza is to introduce the girl , the setting, and to introduce her from an external point of view.

- In the second quatrain the poet describes the woman with two metaphors, the image of the the violet and to the fair of Venus.

The poet compares the girl to a violet who lives near a mossy stone , and the consequence is that you could not see her.

He said that her beauty was similar to the beauty of the star that onlyone was shining  in the sky.

The function of the second stanzas is to give to the reader the positive idea to the girl.

- In the third quatrain , the poet said that the girl -Lucy has died  and the poet wonders about the difference her makes for him. 

 

3)The structure analysis

The text is arranged into three quatrains : in the first , the poet introduces the character, in the second , the character is describe by metaphors and in the last one the poet describe the importance of that woman for him.

 

4) The connotative analysis

The poem conveys the feelings of solitude and homesickness . These feelings are expressed by a person who loved a girl that lived in a lonely place and than died. The poet suggests that waisting time is dangerous and can lead to failure . The poet has waited but he hasn't done nothing to meet her lover. Other feeling suggested by the poem are purity , shyness and these are the features of the young maid , who has always lived in the wood , without meeting anybody.
