A Valediction Forbidding Mourning
The poet is one of the most important poets of the Metaphysical Poetry. The title explains that the two lovers aren't together, and one of them is Mourning.
In this poet Jon Donne compares himself and his lover like the feet of compass. The two feet of the compass must separate to create the perfection. The fixed feet is the girl: without her can't be the perfection. While him is the mobile foot that to draw a perfect circle has to return to the start. So she doesn't have to mourn, because he'll be back and he loves her.
This text is full of figures of speech. This is one of the firsts metaphysical poem in England.
Satan's speech
The poem is from the opera "Paradise Lost" by John Milton, speaking of the descent of the Devil in hell and he says that despite the gloomy atmosphere that reigns in hell and horrible, you feel freer here, rather than the peace of paradise . Satan prefers to remain in an unhappy place as hell, but being the boss, rather than being a slave to God in the kingdom of heaven. Satan has human feelings and is this that makes of him an hero. He sayes thet God does not have a greater understanding, but he has more force, so he reign in the Paradise. Satan uses a direct language.
