The RENAISSANCE
Renaissance is a period of time that started about in 14 century and ended in 17 century. It means “rebirth”; this word concerned the study of the classics. It develops in Italy, later in northern Europe.
Men need to know more about they do not know of the world: people realized that God was not enough to reach balance: people could not find an order between mind and body, so they tried to find answers in classical antiquity. People needed a new birth because Medieval vision of the world did not assure them a balance: mind wants to get salvation while body is carrying away by passion.
The ideas which had fed Middle Ages gradually changed: what people thought was seen not only to a religious point of view but it also began including the nature of the body: people died with the body, not with the spirit. In Greek culture the body was not a taboo.
There were political changes: in northern Europe there were monarchies while in Italy there were state-territorial cities. Political’s aim is to keep order.
During Renaissance there were new discoveries: explorers discover new countries, new world. They wanted to find something new because they were not happy of what they have already discovered.
C.Columbus discovered America (1492), N.Copernico proved that it is the Earth that round the Sun, not the opposite. Besides, Martin Luther denounced the Church corruption: the man is the first Protestant person that is ever existed in the world. In Church there were some changes after Luther: Bible is translated in different languages, the corruption is revealed to people.
The world is organized into a herarchical order, so everyone on Earth has a precise role in society and it does not change: if you born as an agricultural laborer, you will die as an agricultural laborer.
