During the Middle Ages the most important values were salvation and God. and for these reasons, the power of the Church was stronger than the power of the Emperor. The people thought that the life on Earth was not as important as the life after daeth. The society during the Middle Ages were organised in a pyramidal system called feudalism. At the top there was the Emperor, after him came the landed aristocracy (gentry and knights), and at the botton there were the servs. The medioeval period was caratterisated by continuos wars between the Pope and the Emperor. During this period, people began to thought that the body was as important as the soul: this moviment is call Humanisms. The Humanism, with the imitation of the Greek culture, the Protestant Reformation and the “Great Chain of Being”, according to whitch everything has his role in the Universe, were the basis of the Renaissance, that developed at first in Italy, because there was the Pope, and after it expanded in the rest of the Europe, comprending England.
