In line 21 Romeo refers to the physical touch of Juliet . This is an important aspect of Renaissance culture: in the Renaissance, the body regains value .
From line 44 to line 53 Romeo brings all the features of Juliet with a series of metaphors . These metaphors are used in more semantic fields :
· Semantic field of light (she doth the torcher to burn bright , like a rich jewel )
· Semantic field of nature (she hangs upon the cheek of night )
· Semantic field of the woman - angel ( beauty too rich for use , for earth too dear! ; shows a snowy know where trooping with crows , make blessed my rude hand .)
In line 52 Shakespeare explicit questions that reveal relativism Renaissance . Romeo attended the party where he met Juliet because he wanted to forget his love Rosaline . But then , suddenly fell in love with Juliet .
In the next scene is the dialogue between Romeo and Juliet. Romeo immediately suggests to Juliet. Romeo likes her and he wants to give her a kiss. Juliet plays of this aspect of being courted and tells him he is a rude.
The following bars intervenes religious semantic field. In fact, Romeo wants Juliet would used lips and hands to touch him, but, according to Juliet, mouth and hands are only to pray.
Romeo called Juliet “saint”. With this nickname Shakespeare returns to the value system of the Dolce Stilnovo.
Another religious aspect is sin. With the kiss Juliet takes away the sin from his lips. Only the woman-angel can lead man to salvation.
