GENOA

Geona is a city in the north-west of Italy, not very far from France.

It has a population of over 5oo.ooo people. There is a warm Mediterranean climate: hot Summers and warm Winters.

It was one of the four maritime powers and here Christopher Columbus, Giuseppe Mazzini and Goffredo Mameli were born. Near Genoa, Giuseppe Garibaldi started his voyage to Sicily to unify Italy.

The most famous place you can visit in Genoa is the Aquarium, the biggest in Italy, with hundreds of marine species (lots of different jellyfishes, sharks, fishes fram all the world, sea birds, pinguins, dolphins, …). It’s in the old Port near other meuseums about the sea and Genoa’s hostory.

Another famous monument is the lighthouse, the symbol of Genoa.

When you go there, you must go and visit the pedestrian city centre, with ancient churches and museums. You have to try the typical food (trofie with pesto, focaccia, testaroli, ravioli with walnut sauce, …) and, if you like going all the afternoon into and out of shops, go to Via 20 Settembre and have fun!
