Halloween is a festivity that dates back the Celtic festival of Samhain. It is celebrated on the 31 of October when
for the Celtic people was the transitional time between the end of the summer and the beginning of the winter. They believed that the ghost of the death returned to earth to enter the bodies of people or animals during this night. So they started to wear frightening customs and build giant bonfires for burning animals and crops as sacrifices for the Celtic gods. Many centuries later, the Roman Catholic Church decided that on the 1 of November is "All
Hollows Day'" and the evening before it is "All Hollows Eve".Nowadays Halloween is celebrated in most part of the world. During this day children and teenagers dress up frightening masks and customs of ghosts,
witches, skeletons or animals. They visit their neighbors' houses wearing customs and tell them : "Trick or
treat?". If the neighbors give them some sweets or money, they will go away, but it if they don't, the children will make a trick for the neighbors.
The pumpkin is become the symbol of Halloween.
People buy a pumpkin, cut it and use a spoon to clean the inside of the pumpkin, carve the pumpkin in strange and funny faces , put inside it a candle and leave it near a window. In this way, people are protected from the evil
spirits of the night.
