THE ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT

An argumentative text is a text whose writer presents his opinions about a topic. When I write an argumentative text I should advance a thesis, which I must support to convince my interlocutor that what I am telling is true. In an argumentative text the argumentation must be clear and consistent. The text has to be sustained by qualitative and quantitative reasoning. The writer has to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the topic. To write an argumentative text the writer has to select the most important ideas, next he has to organise them and expand them.

An argumentative text is organized into three parts:

- Introductive paragraph

- Body: the writer develops his thesis

- Conclusion: the writer resumes what he had decided and his personal opinion

The aim of an argumentative text is to maintain the reader's attention and curiosity. To do this the text must be interesting.

The writer should use connectors, these are some examples: additionally, also, as well, besides that, furthermore, in addition, moreover, too, however, otherwise, despite, on the other hand, even if, while, unless, instead of, at least, like, as a result, as a consequence.
