WE (my classmate Francesco Attura and me) intend to analyze the language and form of the work of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".
PLOT
Verona is bloody strife between the families of the Montagues and the Capulets, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet know during a masquerade ball organized by the family of Juliet. Romeo and Juliet's love is just so much that they decide to marry the next day. On the same day Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, kills Mercutio, Romeo's friend. Romeo, for revenge, kills Tybalt. That night , Juliet appears on the balcony of his room, beneath which appears Romeo, who goes with her last night in Verona, he will have to escape the city and take refuge in Mantua because Tybalt’s murdered .
The father of Juliet agrees to a marriage between her and Count Paris. Juliet, rather than marry him, drinks a filter that provides apparent death. Romeo learns of Juliet's death, and came to Verona, kills Count Paris and commits suicide. Juliet awakes, sees the body of his beloved and in desperation, kills himself. In front of the lifeless bodies of their children, the Montagues and the Capulets make peace.
LANGUAGE
Romeo and Juliet use a high-level language, rich in metaphors, oxymoron and proverbs: The first time they met, at the masked ball, they have a decided language and full of complicated metaphors. Nevertheless, she has a more direct language than that of Romeo. Juliet wants to go directly to the feeling, without using many similarities: she says, “That which we call a rose, also called by other name would smell as sweet ...” that says that the words and names (even that of Romeo) are less important than the feeling.
In the scene of the ball, Romeo express the idea that Juliet, coming from east, is the sun.
