Halloween is a contraction of “All Hallow’s Evening”. It is a yearly celebration observed mostly in Uk, in France, in Italy, and also in America on October 31, the eve of the feast of All Saints.

According to many scholars,  it dates back  2,000 years and it is a Christianized feast originally influenced by festivals of the dead with possible pagan roots, particularly the Celtic Samhain.

Samhain was seen as a time when the ‘door’ to the Otherworld opened enough for the souls of the dead, and other beings such as fairies, to come into our world looking for a new body to enter.

People took steps to allay or ward-off these harmful spirits, which is thought to have influenced today’s Halloween customs. Trick or treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. They go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money.

Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches and devils. Over time, the costume selection extended to include popular characters from fiction and generic archetypes such as ninjas and princesses.
