The Reluctant Fundamentalist
This is a novel written by a novelist that won a lot of phrases. The title is particular interesting because the word fundamentalist is not easy to refer to fundamentalism. It is interesting to find out the mote tail meaning of the title. The intelligent reader can understand that there are a lot reference about fundamentalist. The title opens a lot of windows. 
The reluctant fundamentalist poses a very interesting question. One should wonder why the fundamentalist is reluctant. The first chapter introduces Changez as the protagonist, it also sets the structure. The moves offers it's readers elements that halo he make sense of what we will read. There is a man from Lahore that is talking with an American. It is set in a tea room, it's afternoon and it is quite worm.the narrative strategy is the dramatic monologue, it implies that there is a speaker talking to an interlocutor that never shows his voice, but the American is there. The novel uses a language used by Changez. How does Changez speak? We have a speaker that is Pakistani, he uses a middle language to reach the American stranger. At the same time the intelligent reader understands that since the interlocutor never answer. In the fist chapter we understand that what makes the interlocutor presence is the body language "do not be frighten by my beard". How does Chagez know he is American? We recognize a stranger from the completion, from the dress, the hair style. But Changez recognize he as a typical kind of American (the human being recognize people from stereotypes). "You seems to be un a mission" the word mission may become a key word. It could be coming from a military world. Types: as if types does not exist. We classify things from the similes. The language used I the first chapter refers to multilayer shades of meaning. 
Why the novelist chosen that type of language and the dramatic monologue? Changez is in the best position, the reader can feel two people that comes from different countries and speak different languages. The American can't speak, this is how American are submitted, America becomes the victim. The poor fundamentalist is poor because he is reluctant. Reluctant fundamentalist is a contradiction. What made him reluctant. He was compelled to go in Pakistan because America changes her attitude towards  him and became the object for discrimination. We have to be careful judging the others. The narrator says that was the beard that allows him to identify him. The story from Old Anakrli has a casts division. The anticipatory skills we use in front of a stranger.
