THE CELTS
PERIOD: during the Iron Age, between ca 600 BC – 50 AD.
MAIN CHARACTERISTIC: tribes of warriors who shared the same religion, culture and language.
CONTRIBUITION: they brought ironworking in the British isles, it affected trade and helped local independence.
OCCUPATIONS: they were farmers and warriors.
SOCIAL ORGANISATION: it was the clan, they joined together with other clans.
LIVING PLACES: they lived in huts made of timber.
ROLE OF WOMEN: they were almost equal to men, they could choose the man they wanted to marry and they also could lead other warriors in war.
RELIGION: they worshipped the sun, the moon and water.
LICTERATURE: they relied on oral transmission.

MAIN CHARACTERISTIC: they involve the conquered tribes in the administration of the province.
CONTRIBUITION: they persuaded the ruling class of Celtic aristocrats to build town dwellings.
