It is Wednesday and I wake up at 7.30 am. After a plentiful breakfast Irene and I take the bus to go to school. The easier way to reach the centre of Dublin is to take the bus or the DART. Anyway taking the bus is more simple because you can ask to a guard how to join your destination, to use the DART you have to be self-assured. On public transport people are silent and neat. Few people chat and the most part of people listen to music. When people get on and get off the bus, use to thank and greet the driver.
We arrive to school and the lesson starts. Michael, our teacher is very nice and I think he likes his job, he can involve students and his lesson aren't boring.
If you want to improve your english, a good choice would be attending the ISI Dublin School. You must do a test wich shows your english level, than at school you are going to partecipate in some suitable courses.
Following our programme, you could enjoy english courses in the morning and going around Dublin city during the afternoon, too.
Today we read "The song of Wandering Aengus" by William Butler Yeats. It is not very easy, for us, understand every word of the poetry. Michael mimics the meaning of the word we don't understand. It is a funny way to memorise new words.
Like in every lesson, Michael wants we don't speak in Italian, only English, we have to speak in English for everythink we have to say, to improve our English.
Lessons in our class, in Dublin, are different than in Italy: our teacher try to teach the language by means jokes, games and funny stories.
Michael makes us hear the Gaelic language, it seems interesting.
It is time for lunch and I have to eat my sandwich.. I personally don't like it: people in Dublin use a lot of butter and a particular cheese, Cheddar cheese. You must not to have great expectations from Irish food, but however you can find good restaurants.
The weather is not so good, it is windy and probably It is going to rain. For our guide this weather it is not a problem. Dublin people are accustumed and for them, this weather is normal. When it rains, you can see the majority part of people walk in the city without an umbrella.
Even if the weather is bad, turists must enjoy amazing natural landscapes. I personally saw the Port of Howth and its beautiful beaches. I was fortunate enough to see a seal!
Walking in the city you can see a lot of different people, Michael says that the majority part of people in Dublin are foreigners.
Dublin society is a youthful society, there are a lot of guys and students. I think you can be bored in Dublin, it is a city that conforms to every kind of personality: you can find place to study and stay in a calm and quiet place and you can also find place to have fun and know new people. Indeed in Dublin there are a lot of parks, schools, theaters and museums and there are also pubs and shops.
I think Irish people are very attached to their culture and their tradition, the Irish pub we visited is a testimony to this.
Dublin has also hosted people who became famous in all the world, like James Joyce and W.B Yeats, important for their poetry.
In the afternoon we visit The James Joyce Centre. In a building in the centre of Dublin there is a museum dedicated to J.Joyce that collects portraits of him and his family, pictures, photos, biographies and his works.
One thing I have noticed in this days, during the visits at museums or at school is the way Irish people speak. Their voice tone seems musical and as it follows a rhythm.
Their English is not very different from the English you can hear in London.
Regarding their contact with foreigners, I think they are nicely corious. They can ask you where are you from.., and if they see you in trouble they help you.
Living in my host family I unsterstand that they are curious, friendly and helpful and, at the same time they are reserved.
