Dear Sir or Madam,
I haven’t been living in this town for long, but I have already noticed some important things about it. First of all, some local people have just decided to open a new youth club on a volunteer basis. This is very positive for young people, but I see that your newspaper hasn’t reported the fact. Also, there is an excellent art club and a music group which has recently been opening an exhibition. But no publicity from you! Why haven’t you reported this event ?
Another good thing about this town is the sport centre-people of all ages have been going to the lessons since 1998 when the centre opened: but why haven’t you been informing the public about these lessons in your newspapers?
Please give more space to local events!
Your faithfully,
Julia Brown

For his 18th birthday Roddie Lewis’s parents gave him an unusual birthday present: a course in First Aid. Roddie is interested in medicine and hopes to become a doctor. He has been studying science and mathematics at school for several years, but hadn’t seen any practical medical subjects. Roddie is now the youngest person in our county to work with the medical volunteers who assist ambulance personnel. He had worked for 4 months. ‘While assisting the experts, I had tried to observe and learn,’ says Roddie. ‘Before I started this job, I had learnt a heart attack or injury exceot in books and films and I had never helped a sick person. Now I feel confident I can assist people in emergencies. ‘ ‘We have been working with Roddie for several months,9 said Derek Gilliam, professional ambulance paramedic,’ and although he hadn’t had any experience before he started, he is very enthusiastic and quick, and had helped a lot. He has the qualities of an excellent doctor.’ Roddie takes his final school exam later this year, and hopes to win a place at medical school.
