Dear Sir or Madam,
I haven't been living in this town for a long, but I have already noticed some important things about it. First of all, some local people have just decided to open a new youth club on a volunteer basis. This is very positive for young people, but I see that your newspaper hasn't reported the fact. Also, there is an excellent art club and a miusic group which has recently opened an exhibition. But no pubòicity from you! Why havent you reported this event? Another good thing about this town is the sports centre - people of all ages have been going to lessons since 1998 when the centre opened: but why haven't you informed the pulic about these lessons in your newspaper?
Please give more space to local events!
Yours faithfully,
Julia Brown.

For his 18th birthday Roddie Lewis's parents gave him an unusual birthday present: a course in First Aid. Roddie is interested in medicine and hopes to become a doctor. He has been studying science and mathematics at school for several years, but hadn't studied any pratical medical subjects.
Roddie is now the youngest person in our country to work with the medical volunteers who assist ambulance personnel. He has been helping for 4 months. " While assisting the experts, I have been trying to observe and learn" says Roddie. "Before I started this job, I hadn't seen a heart atack or an injury except in books and films and I had never helped a sick person. Now I feel confident I can assist people in emergencies."
"We have been working with Roddie for several months," said Derek Gilliam, professional ambulance paramedic, " and although he hadn't had any experience before he started, he is very enthusiastic and quick, and has learnt a lot. He has the qualities of an excellent doctor." Roddie takes his final school exams later this year, and hopes to win a place at medical school.
