In the 1869, aged 16, van Gogh left school and went to England, where he worked first in a bookshop and then as a art dealer for seven years. He then spent four years living in various European countries. Finally, in 1880, Van Gogh moved to Brussels to study art.
In 1886 Vincent decided to move to France, where he met some of the greatest artistsof the time, such Monet Pizarro and Gauguin. Vincent became an obsessive painter and he often spent his money on the art supplies instead of food. He soon started to suffer from a depression and he was admitted to a nmental hospital in the December 1888 after cutting off his own ear. While in the mental hospital, Vincent painted some of his best-known paintings.
