The day before I was born, the 24th December, my mum and dad were at my grandmother’s. There was a big dinner party with all my family. My mum wasn’t very well, but dad said there was nothing to worry about – as they expected me a bit later. However, halfway through dinner, she was really sick. Luckily, the hospital was very far from my grandmother’s house. They took my mother there immediately but I wasn’t born until the next day.

I remember my first day of school in 1999! I arrived at 8.30 and schools started at 9.00.

We studied from 9.00 to 12.00. the teachers talked a lot! Then we played football for an hour. In the afternoon we continued our lessons and listened to the teacher carefully. Then at 3.30 school finished. It was a long and tiring day.

As a child I lived with my grandparents. My parents worked abroad. High school was great, but I didn’t enjoy primary school. My parents visited me at Christmas and Easter. I travelled to their home abroad after the end of the school year and stayed with them for the summer.

I passed my exams with low marks, because I didn’t study. I didn’t want to go to university so I decided to look for a job in a restaurant. Then I enrolled at a cookery school in the city, and eventually I opened my own restaurant.

Hi Lizzy,

Just a quick message. My skiing trip is great. On the first day we went to the top of snowy mountain and took some photos of the view. We stayed on the ski slopes all afternoon. But then we got tired and went to bed early! On the second day we made some new friends but we didn’t go skiing again, we decided to go ice skating. It was excellent! Yesterday was very cold so we had cold so we had a hot lunch and ate some tasty sausages.

D:   A lot of fish of course. And salads too. The food was great, very varied. I even tried Japanese food?

B:    Why there was Japanese food on the menu ?

D:   They were a lot of Japanese visitors, it’s a popular destination for them.

D: Hours and hours! In fact I’m exhausted!

It was a normal, quiet morning. Mr and Mrs Foster were having breakfast. Mrs Foster was reading the newspaper, and Mr Foster was listening to the news on the radio. The newsreader was talking about a series of strange murders. Richard Foster was sitting upstairs in his bedroom. His sister Wendy was jogging in the park, enjoying the morning sun. The cat was sleeping quietly at Mr Foster ‘s feet. Outside the garden was quiet. A few birds were singing. The neighbours’ dog was digging a hole in the garden. Some cars were moving along the street.

On Tuesday morning at about 10.15a.m, a car was travelling north on the main road through Kimberton. It was travelling at approximately 30 miles per hour. When it reached the stop sign at the crossroads, it stopped. No other cars were coming in any direction, so the car started again and turned right. As it was turning, a lorry travelling faster arrived behind it. The driver looked in his mirror and realised the lorry was moving faster, so he accelerated. While I was accelerating, a cyclist came out of a private gate and forgot to look at the road. The car hit the cyclist, who was wearing a helmet and was not hurt. The lorry, which was going too fast, hit the back of the cars. The vehicles were damaged, but luckily there were no casualties.

While she was trying to pass me a note, Mrs Ford suddenly looked up and saw us. It was so embarrassing!

F:    Very true Steve. You see, I was climbing the ladder when my dog saw me. He wanted to come with me, so he started to climb the ladder too. He was climbing it when suddenly he jumped off.

S:    But is he hurt too? Poor thing.

F:    Oh no, he only reached the second step.

S:    And then?

F:    His fall moved the ladder while I was taking a step up, and I lost my balance.

S:    Oh dear, that is bad luck.

As a child I wanted to be a ballet dancer. I was convinced that I had a great talent. My mother told me to keep studying too. She wanted me to be a journalist. I took ballet lessons every day and I used to spend all my money going to the theatre. I thought that studying was a waste of time. One day when I was going to ballet class on the bus, the road was blocked. A TV journalist was interviewing people about a recent accident. I was watching from the bus, absolutely fascinated. While I was watching I realised that I didn’t want to be a ballet dancer at all. I wanted to become a TV journalist. My mother was delighted.

It appears that 70% of 12 years old who live in British cities have received a mobile phone from their parents. They have used a computer and have chatted to people they don’t know.

The same number has not seen a real lam or calf, and has not had a pet at home. About 50% of young people in cities have tried a sport, and a few have joined a team. Most have not had any experience of sports competitions. About one third have travelled abroad and most have visited other parts of the country. Very few know London, the capital city.

At 6.37 p.m. they all saw an injured person on ground. While Sue and Martie were tiring to help the person, Bill phoned the police and John started looking for gunman. At 6.40 p.m. Billy realised John wasn’t there and started to look for him with Sue. The police arrived Billy and Sue heard a car and returned the injured person and Martie. Suddenly, at 6.47 p.m. they realised that Martie was not there. At 6.48 p.m. while they were reporting the events, they heard a noise and turned around. A gunman was pointing a gun at them.

Jamie was generally considered a bad musician at school. He often failed his music exams and the teacher usually ignored him. Jamie was depressed and demotivated.

His parents were worried. Finally they decided to move Jamie to a new school. After three days Jamie’s mother received a phone call. It was the music teacher from the new school. He h asked Jamie’s mother where Jamie had studied music before. She relied that Jamie had failed music in his previous school, and had been very depressed before starting the new school. The music teacher had been silent for a moment. Then he said: Jamie is a genius, but his ex- teacher obviously isn’t.

When I reached the cinema, there was no sign of Carol. I Thought we had agreed to meet at 7.30, but the journey had been taking longer than I expected, and I was a few minutes late.

I didn’t know whether she had gone in to see the film without me, or whether she was late too. After a few minutes I started wondering whether I had made a mistake about the time. Just then, she waved at me from across the street. It turned out that she had been waiting in a caffè, and she had wondered what had happened to me. It seems that I had misunderstood our arrangements after all. She had set in the caffè since 6.30, and had been expecting me to join her for a snack before the film.
