The Tudor dynasty had had five kings and queen. The first was Henry VIII, he ruled from 1485 to 1509. He tried to consolidate his position throught a treaty with France, a treade treaty and the dynastic marriage between Artur his son e Cathrine of Aragon.

When he died, became king his brother Henry VIII from 1509 to 1547. He married his brother's widow Cathrine of Aragon but decided to divorce to her and married a lady in waiting Anne Boleyn.

Indeed in 1534 he imposed the 'Act of Supremacy'.

After that Mary I became queen from 1553 to 1558.

Her nickname was Bloody Mary. She was disappointed to her father. Mary was a protestant queen indeed she started to persecute catholics.

The last queen was Elizabeth I from 1558 to 1603. She was very intelligent and a 'virgin queen'.

In 1558 Spain decided to invaded England but the great armada of 130 galleons lost against England.

The term 'Elizabeth Period' was born because the queen Elizabeth ruled longer than any other monarch during the Renessaince.

Also in elizabeth time was very importnat the entertainment indeed in 1576 was built the first theater in London but in 1593. But the plague broke out and for this reason were forced close.

With the death of Elizabeth ended the Tudor line and ascended to the throne 'Jacobean Era'.

The first king was King James I, he was protestant and decided to write the king James Bible and would be used by the Church of England. He died in 1625.

His son Charles I became king after his death.

During his reign the Civil War broke out because the puritans wanted true balance between the king and the parliament but the king didn't agree. The war ended when Charles was taken prisoner in 1647 and Oliver Cromwell took control of London.

He died in 1658.

Charles II went on the throne and began a 'New Era.'

An important period for litterature was Humanism, in this period there was a a new way of looking at the world indeed the intellectuales put man at the centre and its centrally in the universe.

An important intellectual was Lorenzo The Magnificent.

Also the Renaissance was an important period.

The English Renaissance was born in 1509 when Henry VIII ascended the throne and ended in 1660.

It was a time of rebirth of intellectual and artistic energies that characterised ancient Greek and Roman civilization. The most important poet were Petrarch, Boccaccio.

It was consider the golden age of poetry because of flowrishing of love songs and sonnets. They were different between Italian ones.

The English sonnet was divided into 4 section while the Italian one was divided into 2 section
