NELLIE MARCH
Physical characteristic
March was robust; she is near thirty like Banfort. She did most of the outdoor work, her shoulders were straight, her movements easy and confident, she appears like some graceful, loose-balanced young man but her face was not a man’s face.
She had crisp dark hair, two big, wild, dark eyes and her mouth was pinched.
She has little or no money and she is unmarried.
MENTAL characteristic
She is a worker; she is the man of the house.
Her eyes are strange, startled, shy and sardonic at once. There was something of unexplained about her.
She did not want to living for work alone.
March always had the same old, slow and laconic way to speech.
JILL BANFORD
Physical characteristic
Banford was small, tiny and delicate person with a pair of glasses.
She had a rich father who is a tradesman in Islington and gave her the money to start the business of the farm.
She is about thirty and unmarried like March.
MENTAL characteristic
She is nervous and delicate, was a warm and generous soul.
THE FOX
Physical characteristic
The fox was like a demon; he exasperated them both because he stole Banford and March’s fowls and they cannot kill him. March compared the fox to Henry.
The tip of his brush was white, he casted a ruddy shadow, he held his brush smooth like a feather and his white buttocks twinkled.
PERSONALITY
He was sly; it seems to circumvent the girls deliberately.
He slid along; making off, with slow leaps slow, impudent jumps ran smoothly away; gone, softly, soft as the wind. He was silent and difficult to see like a snake.
