BANFORD

In this short paragraph, I am going to discuss the character of Banford in the short story “The Fox” by D. H. Lawrence.

First of all I am going to analyse the character, writing about the name that the writer gave to the woman: Banford. The name Banford remind to the verb “to band” which means “legare” or “avvolgere”. This name gives you immediately an important information about the psychic aspect of Banford. In fact Banford tries to tie everybody to her point of view, in particularly to March, the other woman character, during all the short story, for example when she insists for March to kill the fox.

Banford physical aspect is totally opposite at her character. She is the richest of the two women, she is small and thin, she can’t do heavy works, but she is emotionally very strong, in fact she influences March’s decisions about the life in the farm. Banford, having womanly characteristics, prefers doing woman works like cooking, reading or doing housework.

In conclusion, the character of Banford, characterized by an inadequate physical strength, is compensate from mind strength.
