Benford was one of the character of the short story by D.H. Lawrence. She was about thirty years old. She lived in a farm whit her friend March. Both weren’t married, in-fact they would be independent and autonomy. This is one of the reasons why they decided to go to work in this farm.
The character of Benford was the opposite of March character. Banford was presented as a small, delicate thing with glasses nervous and delicate, but also a warm, generous, soul.
March, differently, was presentate as the man of the factory, she did all the outside work. Banford always takes a position and does anything to make the friend think like her. Banford was the real woman. The name of Benford derive from the verb to band that mean “legare, avvolgere”.
She was the principal investor of the farm and she did the “woman work” as cooking, cleaning etc..
In the first part of the story the narrator present her as a timid and deicate person, and March was more robust and strong the she. But in the second part of the story she was the stronger character. In fact when March decided to get married with Henry, the male character, she become more determinate and she tried in every way to stop her friend and to persuade her to didn’t left with him. In the end of the story the narrator decided to kill her. When she was talking with Henry, he tried to convincere her to get away, because the three was going to fall in that luogo. But she didn’t want to listened him so she did. When she meet from the first volt Henry, she find him very friendly person, anzi she saw him as a brother. But when she knew that Henry was going to married March, she started to hate him. March was her friends, her own friends, l’unica person that helped her with the factory, l’unica company. For this reasons, she didn’t want that March left away with Henry.
