A WORD IS DEAD.
A word is dead,
when it is said
Some say -
I say it just begins to live
That day A word is dead,
Considering the title the reader maybe curious to find out the reason why a word is dead.
Consider the lay-out the reader understand that the text is a poem with six lines divided by a comma. Therefor the text can be analyse as two trios. Since the poet as decided to organize/ to arrange lines into two trios. The intelligent reader wants to find out the function of the first and the second trios.
What the poets says is that same people think that ones a word is pronoun, it dies. The second tercet expresses the speaking’s voices point of you which is extent of common’s people.
The first striking element of the text is a same different which is chosen an propose the first two lines of on tersest exploited a rhyme couplet which creates a brake in the reading pace reinforced by the comma.
The devices help/contribute to but the third line into evidence in a few words the reader is now compared to focus her/his attention on the third line. The function is to express the point of you of the common people.
In addiction there is a different even in line length that adds to what was said before and ones again seas to isolate the third line from the previous one this seas to pave the way/anticipate what the speaking’s voice is going to do in the second part of the poem.
Indeed the poets since also to create a different atmosphere in the second tersest as if she wanted to assert her point of you (I say) more vigorously. The intelligent reader can notice that the key position of the subject pronoun “I” contributes to give strength and vigour to the speaking’s voice point of you.
Further more there is a caesura in the middle of the first line of the second tersest that highlights the poets idea since the following run-on-line sets the opinion they words have a life of there cut at the centre of the text.
Beside the sound defaces discuss so far the reader can hear the density of the sound “the” and “S” in the poem. The repletion pf sound “the” is meant to put the lexical suntan “word” at the centre of investigation. Unless you are myopic you will realise that the word “word” is capitalise and therefor you will surely understand that “word” together “I say” became the two more relevant words of the text.
Considering now the semantic feels of the poem the reader easily understand they have always something to do with the process of communication the field is made up by “word” sad “say” “live” and it explains the message of the poem: if word have a life, if they don’t live there cannot be any communication not even the one of the poem it self the poetes even asks for silence in the text since silence is prerequisite to mutual understanding in that the sound “s” is repeated eight in the economy of the poem as if the poet war asking for silence to deliver a message.
To put the message into a better focus the text also realise an the semantic feel of time.
