Act I
The structure of the play consists of acts, organized into scenes. "Hamlet" has got five acts organized into different number of scenes, act 4 is the longest.
The play is set mainly in the castle of Elsinore, in and out of it. The castle is located in a city in Denmark. The first act is set in a place outdoor, near the castle. Then the play has a medieval setting, and the material of the play is medieval too.
The scene of the first act opens with the dialogue between Bernardo and Francisco in a platform before the castle of Elsinore.This scene takes place in the middle of the night and they are talking about a ghost, the ghost of King Hamlet.
Shakespeare creates a misterious and dark atmosphere because he wants to make the reader curious and scared.
The story lines of the play is set in the Middle Ages.
