Question 2 The book is narrated from the point of view of Nazneen but it is written in third person.
Question 3 Hasina is presented as the opposite of Nazneen. Hasina ran away and eloped whilst Nazneen is stuck in an arranged marriage. The theme of fate is presented in the storyline of both these characters. We learn about Nazneen’s character through her thoughts and emotions. We learn about Hanu’s character through speech, because he is presented as a mean character through his phonecall.
Question 4 Examples of comic touch: ⁃“Nazneen put her hand up to her head. It was true.” ⁃“Narrow hips! You could wish for such a fault.” ⁃“It would be possible to tuck all your hundred pens and pencils under those rolls and keep them safe and tight. You could stuff a book or two up there as well.”
Question 5 The theme of marriage is developed through two marriages: Hasina’s and Nazneen’s. Hasina chose to run away with a man and marry him. Whilst Nazneen was forced to marry a man in an arranged marriage. The theme of fate connects these two marriages. Nazneen did not protest her marriage allowing fate but Hasina protested an arranged marriage changing her fate.
Question 6 Elizabeth Bennet and Nazneen both want the person that they marry to love them. But Elizabeth wants to choose who she marries and who she falls in love with. Whilst Nazneen decides to leave it to fate and to accept her arranged marriage and hope that he loves her and she loves him.
Question 7 I would like to get married because i think marriage is a big step towards showing your commitment to another person. The vows you make are very important and marriage is a very special bond that i would like with another person.
Question 8 An arranged marriage would be horrible. You cannot choose who you wish to marry and the person chosen for you may be horrible. An advantage is that you would perhaps have someone to support you and love you. But the person who you marry might not love you. I don’t think arranged marriages are good because you lose your free will to choose what you want to do.
