CROSS-CULTURAL ANALYSIS

 

1. It showed the marked similiraties existing between modern American and ancient Puritan ways of seeing hard work and responsabilities as a path to salvation, as something to do because of fear (of God or of being poor, this can change)

 

2. It makes American people more severe with women, considered dirty if they have sexual experiences out of the marrying (as if we were living the 12th century)

 

3. He says "we do", so if he's talking about American people and he makes him participating, he logically is American.

 

4. The idea is if Tocqueville had been on the American shores when the Puritans landed on them; tha author wonders if he would have made the same thoughts he expressed.
