Up to  5QLSC - The Reluctant Fundamentalist. A personal reading experience Up to task document list

Changez is the protagonist of the novel “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”; he is a Pakistani man who went to college in Princeton, and who narrates the story of his time in the United States to a stranger.

During a holiday in Greece he met a girl named Erica and he felt in love with her, but his relationship with her will be always undermined by her dead ex-boyfriend Chris. Changez then leaves America and returns to Pakistan.

Changez’s personality, during the story, will change in exponential way, indeed, he will find himself divided between two cultures and two totally different fundamentals: America’s capitalism and the Islamic religion and Pakistan’ s value.

Also his name “Changez” reminds to word “change” and it presents the protagonist’s position during the novel.

For most of the novel, he loves the United States; but at the end of the story, when there was the attack on the Twin Towers, he was happy because finally America was defeated.

He was against the America’s fundamentalist because was based on capitalism and he was against the values of power.
