One Art is made up of 6 stanzas; the first four stanzas contain three lines, while the last consist of four. The poem is a villanelle, a form deriving from rustic songs; its rhyme scheme is ABA. The “I” voice talks to a one expressing sadness and sense of disaster, while making ironical comments on the inevitability of losing objrcts and opportunities. Losing a loved ‘you’, however, is a much more painful experience, and the poet finally forces herself to acknowledge that that is loss.
