  1. I think these people are celebrating their Puritan origins in order to keep in mind their traditions and reaffirm their strong identity.

  2. Yes, it does. It remembers me a yearly festivity of my own town: Saint Elizabeth's fair. Indeed, during the festival's days is celebrated also the turkey's figure: people take their turkeys in front of a jury and the biggest and the most beautiful one wins a prize.

  3. I think the most important festivity recognized as a national symbol is Italy's institution of Republic, celebrated on 2 June. However, in the other nations the "symbols" for what we are recognized are “pizza, pasta, mandolino and mafia”.
