LBravo - Homework 04/02/2019

Midnight's Children

Ex. 4

  • Generally, children born on India's Independence Day, have sort of magical powers.

  • In the extract there is only one example provided to support the author thesis: the one that regards two twin sisters that live in Baud.

  • The two sisters are able to make any man who sees them fall in love obsessively.

  • The narrator becomes aware of these children near his tenth birthday (that he had in common with them) by chance.

Ex. 5

  • The narrator is involved in the story: he is one of the special children born on August 15th, 1947. He is an evident narrator, who comments the facts presented and relies more on telling than on showing.

Ex. 6

  • In the narration there are realistic historical pieces of information, but I consider the whole story of these special children a fantastic sort of legend created by the writer.

  • Yes, I would, because the narrator often uses ironic expressions (ex: lines 13-15, “if you will… I can manage”; the repetition of “noteworthy”, lines 7-8)
