At the beginning, Great Britain was inhabited by the Celts. Celts were divided in several populations, each of which has lived in a specific area of the island: the northern part was inhabited by the Caledonians, the Taezali, the Venicones, the Epidii, the Damnonii, the Novantae, the Selgovae and the Votadini, the central area by the Carvetii, the Brigantes, the Parisi, the Cornovii, the Deceangli, the Ordovices, the Iceni and the Corieltauvi, the southern part by the Demetae, the Catuvellauni, the Silures, the Dobunni, the Bumnonii, the Durotriges, the Belgae, the Atrebates, the Regni, the Cantii and the Trinovantes. The Celts were about 1 million altogether, their average life expectancy was 35-40 years long and most of them lose one or both parents by 15. They usually eat bread, stew and porridge and they drink beer using a drinking horn. They generally move on foot, by currach or by horse-drawn chariot. Coins were minted by different rulers and they were acquired through trade and gift. For example, taking into consideration the three coins in the table, one of them, namely that with a galloping horse and the engraving "cvno", dates back to 10 AD, another one dates back to 40 AD and the latest dates back to 41 AD. |
