Considering the title, the poem could speak of the use of words. From the layout you note that it is composed of a stanzas with six verses. In the first line the word "Word" is written in capital letters because it is the key word of all poem. The last words of the first and second lines ("Dead", "Said") form a kissed rhyme that has a dental sound: when you pronounce it you must stop by force; this fact recalls in the text the moment in which the word dies. In the first three lines there is the alliteration of the consonant S; by pronouncing these lines aloud one can perceive that someone invites you to be silent and stop and reflect on the meaning of these lines. In the third and fourth lines, "I say" and "Some say" create a contrast through the accented vowels. With "I say" you are forced to stop to better understand what comes next. |
