Argumentative text about Middle Ages

Lord Randal tells about some important characteristics of the popular traditions and habits in the Middle Ages.

For example, hunting was a resource for living and hawks and hounds were helping the hunter to find the game.

The fact that he goes on foot is a hint to the fact that this is a very old ballad. On the other hand, the woods describes as a mysterious and magic place.

The word “Lord” is used when you referring to someone who has lived in the past, in this case you speak about a person of the aristocracy lived in the Middle Ages.

Randal is a rich man who possessed a lot of goods such as lands, houses, gold and silver which were considered very important to live.

The most important thing of which the poem speaks that makes you understand that it was in the past was the male figure. Males were those who kept the family, indeed Lord Randal hunts and who gave orders to the other members, as Lord Randal who orders his mother to make his bed as soon as possible because he is tired.

Just because males were strong figures, the women were subdued by them, like Lord Randal’s mother who was very attached to her son.

Another argument that makes you understand that you are talking about the past is the fact that people, on the point of death, left an oral will.

In this case, Lord Randal said he wanted to leave twenty cows to his mother, gold and silver to his sister, houses and lands to his brother and hell and fire to his true-love.

This makes you understand that the goods were very importants, especially if you were the first born because you had the right to all possessions.
