I Look into my Glass Just considering the title I expect the poem to be about a first view point poem because in the tile there is the possessive “my”. Reading the poem I would find out why the poet is looking into his glass. The layout made me understand the text is a poem and shows the composition consists in 12 lines arranged into three stanzas of 4 lines each separated by the use of punctuation. Moreover there is a direct speech. Considering the first line, that is the same as the title, this composition is part of a collection. The speaker is talking about grow and the feelings that he feels when he gets older emphasizing the action of time that is one of he most important theme. Moreover the speaker thanks to the moment when he is looking himself into his mirror and seeing his wasting skin presents the old age theme. There are lots of words that belongs to the semantic field of the time: came to pass, grown, for then, grown, endless, time, eve and noontide; and that is why the word “Time” is capitalized, because it has a very important meaning, becoming a keyword. The concept is: Time passes and it wastes everyone’s energy, look and beauty. You can find alliteration with the repetition of the letter “f at the eleventh line, which makes me think of something broken. Moreover, at the end of the poem there is a relevant metaphor: the word “eve”, which means “evening,” refers to the time before the night that is the oldness before the death. |
