Fire And Ice
Taking the title into consideration, I expect the poem may be about two opposite things, probably passion ("fire") and indifference ("ice"). The intelligent reader can understand that it is a poem because it is arranged in lines. The poem is organized into three stanzas: the first two have both two lines, the last one has 5 lines. The first stanza is connected by "some say" which is at the beginning of both the lines and has the function to expose the two causes with the world could end: some think with fire, others with ice. The second room is connected by the rhyme "desire-fire" which indicates the opinion of the poet on the thing that will cause the end of the world. In the last stanza the poet tells about the "ice" and states that if the world were perish twice he knew enough hate to say that the "ice" would suffice. The last five lines are all in enjambement to speed up the rhythm and to be read without hesitations. This poem speaks of human relationships. It is therefore evident that the "fire" indicates the passion and the "ice" the coldness, the indifference. |
