One Art – Analysis

Just considering the title, I expect the poem to be a specific type of art.

The layout shows the poem is arranged into six stanzas: they are al tercets, but the last one, which is a quatrain. In the last stanza there are some parenthesis, maybe to highlight something.

The rhythm follows a specific scheme: in the tercets the rhythm is ABA, while in the quatrain it is ABAA; it follows that all the rimed lines are linked together.

The register used is informal because of the contracted forms, the imperatives and the use of the pronoun “you”; the expression “the art of losing isn’t har to master” is frequent, in that it means that losing things is very easy.
