Geordie

This poem is a ballad and it tells about a condemn man.

Just considering the title, I aspect the poem to be about a man called Geordie.

The layout makes me understand it is a poetical text because it is arranged into seven stanzas of four lines each, called quartain.

In the poem there is an alternation between dialogues and narrations.

Each line starts with a capitol letter and some lines are repeated, such as “Oh my Geordie” or “Go bridle”.

The first stanza speak in the past, in London, over the London Bridge. The speaking voice is a walker and the first event is someone is lamenting.

In the second stanza the speaker voice is a girl and she  wants to find out because the girl was lamenting. That girl is very proud of Geordie and the tone are totally different from the first one stanza.

In the third stanza the girl was making an invocation, she was praying. The insistent use of the possessive “my” makes me understand that the relationship between Gordie and the girl are affettive.

In the fourth stanza the setting change from the first part and in the fifth one the girl promised to give one offer children if the Court will save Geordie.
