THE CELTS The most important population who forged the British nation was the Celts; even if, at the beginning, the Island was inhabited by them. They used to move on foot and to make great distances by chariot; while if they had to cross a river, they used a currach. The Celts were a community of 27 different ethnic groups who, together, were more or less one million people. Other curiosity about the Celts are that they had an economy based on money and didn’t base on barter, instead they produced some types of coins with a different value and common to each of them (and coins changed during the years), that their average life expectancywas about 35-40 years and that in thier life they eat bread, stew, porridge and drink beer. To conclude the Celts were assimilated by the Romans and the Germanic populations during the years of them existence. |
