Last week I read an extract that belongs to Shakespeare’s Macbeth act 5 scene 5. After analyzing it I thought that, considering its meaning, it can be divided into three parts that coincide with the three exchanges of dialogue. A deep reading showed that in the very first part Macbeth is hinting at earlier moments of his life, when his body responded differently to horrifying stimuli and that in the last one, after Banquo’s announcement of his wife’s death, he is making some reflections about human being’s sense of life. The purpose of the present text is to make some reflections about life, starting from Macbeth’s words and considering my personal experience. To start with, I think that people cannot deny that everyone’s short life will finish in the same way witch is death. As a consequence I believe that people who spend most of their time trying to dress better than the others and to wear as much makeup as they can in order to be noticed are simply wasting their time. As Macbeth says in a metaphor, it is useless to act on the stage of life because every part of our plays will finish. Considering my own experience, I think the worse disappointment I can recieve from a person is to find out that he is not spontaneous with me. Going on I don’t really agree that every day is just a step towards death and therefore people cannot but give up living and wait for life’s end, like does Macbeth. Indeed I think that life can be filled up with meaningful experiences. Personally, I consider helping the less fortunate an example of a meaningful experience, because whenever I volunteer I feel like my very simple deeds can be useful to someone. Undeniably along life you will also make negative experiences and therefore it depends on you to make them meaningful for your following positive ones: making a meaningful life is a personal choice. Last but not least I think it is important to realize life’s precariousness in order to take the most of it. Indeed I can’ stand some people around me when I see them spending their time lying in bed and doing nothing. They postpone everything they can because they are never ready. I think human being should realize their life won’t last forever ( as Macbeth reminds life is as short as a brief candle). As a consequence they could not have enough time in their future to do what they postpone. Taking into consideration all that said before, I consider my life vision to have some points in common with Macbeth’s , such as its undeniably shortness, but looking it as a whole to be very different. Indeed I think people should not be lazy and do as much experiences as they can in order to live their short life fully, and should also remember that time never stops going on. |
