THE NOVEL

The novel narrates about characters that live in a specific setting.

There is a story-line that tells about situations connected to the story told.

The story is verbalized by different narrative techniques. You can have a third person narrator or a first person narrator who is also the protagonist.

Novels are written to be read and therefore the novelist who speaks true his literally choices has always an ideal reader in mind.

The novel has also been considered the narrative of characters parexelange. The analysis of characterization consideres how a character comes to life.

A narrator can choose different elements to portray his or her carachters.

Elements of characterization:

-          Name

-          Surname

-          Language or dialect used

-          Way of thinking

-          Way of speaking

-          Cultural background

-          Family background

-          Physical description

-          Reputation

-          Peculiarities

 

Textual analysis is not a summary. The analysis of a novel starts with:

1- brainstorming and curiosities of the title

2- structure

 

The novel developed in eighteenth century has mainly product the expression the middle-class uses. The middle-class had become really important at the time and the novelist of the period became the mouth-speakers.
