1. Robinson Crusoe belongs to the middle class. 2. he has in common with the classixal heroes of travel literature his restlessness, the search of his own identity in alternative to the model provided by his father. 3. the novel can be read as a spiritual autobiography because the hero reads the Bible to find comfort and guidance, experiences the constant conflict between good and evil, and keeps a diary to record events in order to see God’s will. 4.the island is the ideal place for Robinson to prove his qualities, to demostrate that he deserved to be saved by God’s providence. 5. Robinson creates a primitive empire. It is an exaltation of 18th century England and its ideals of mobility, material productiveness and individualism. 6. Robinson applies a rational method to every situation: he always starts by observating the situation, then he makes a list of all possible solutions, he considers the pros and cons and he chooses the best alternative.
