STREET CODE Having a car, or any private means of transport, in addition to being an enormous convenience, is becoming increasingly indispensable. This leads us to walk be on the road every day exposing our to risks often underestimated. Reducing these risks and preventing accidents, at least reducing their consequences, are the prerogatives of road safety regulations. These rules, in my opinion, are very clear and seem very effective, but often they’re not enough. The number of fatal accidents continues to grow, from eight hundred thousand deaths in 1999 to one million and one hundred thousand in 2010. The number of road victims is so high that it has been estimated that this figure is well above the total number of deaths caused by all the wars fought in the same period, or the whole of the twentieth century. A perspective of the year 2020 shows that deaths caused by road will become the third leading cause of death. A loti s being done to try to stem the problem, but these data underline its seriousment, highlighting that the problem seems to be getting worse. In my opinion, one solution would be to improve the awarenesss campaign, starting with schools. In this way you could make yourself aware of the risks you run on the road, trying to make young people more responsible making it clear that breaking rules is not fashionable, but only stupid behaviour. For example, many young people have had very serious accidents while travelling on scooters. So, road education could be addes to school subjects. This proposal, like many others. Is however useless without the commitment and the desire to change of every single person. In fact, i twill be possible to improve road safety only if each of us personally commits ourselves to respect the rules. Respecting all the rules, and pointing out the errors to the transgressors, we can try to upsolf this problem, and above all we can feel safer on the street. |
